ABB 216AB61 HESG324013R101 Binary Output Module

The 216AB61 is a rack‑mount binary output module for ABB REG216 generator protection and control system. It is a Eurocard format plug‑in unit, installed in system backplane slots. This module provides multiple galvanically isolated binary relay outputs for driving external relays, circuit‑breaker trip coils, alarm indicators and auxiliary field devices. It receives control commands from the main processor via back‑plane parallel bus, converts logic signals into dry‑contact relay outputs. Built‑in self‑diagnosis monitors power supply, relay driving circuit and internal hardware faults. It is widely used for generator and transformer protection, interlock and alarm signal output in power plant applications. Not hot‑swappable.

Description

Hardware Electrical Specifications

‑ Power Supply: Powered by system back‑plane (5 VDC, 24 VDC)

‑ Power Consumption: ≤ 8 W

‑ Mechanical Structure: Eurocard plug‑in board, metal front panel, back‑plane bus connector

‑ On‑board Resources: Multi‑channel relay drive circuit, galvanic isolation, self‑diagnosis logic, back‑plane parallel bus interface

‑ Communication Interface: Internal back‑plane parallel bus, no external communication port

‑ Galvanic Isolation: Field output channels are electrically isolated from system internal bus

‑ Interfaces: Field wiring connector on front panel, back‑plane system bus connector

‑ Status LED Indicators: Power, Run, Fault, Channel alarm LEDs

‑ Weight: Approx 0.42 kg

Main Functions

‑ Multiple isolated binary relay dry‑contact outputs for external trip, interlock and alarm loads.

‑ Receive logic commands from system CPU via back‑plane bus, execute on‑off output actions.

‑ Built‑in hardware self‑diagnosis: detect power supply abnormality, drive circuit failure and module internal faults, report fault status to main CPU.

‑ Relay contact status and module fault information are uploaded to the host system through back‑plane bus for upper‑level monitoring.

‑ All configuration parameters are set by upper‑level system software, no local keypad operation.

‑ Cannot work independently without REG216 system back‑plane and CPU unit. Cannot be directly hardware interchanged with other series modules.

Control & Monitoring Function

‑ Continuously monitor module power, internal circuit and output channel status. Hardware faults will trigger fault LED and send fault word to system.

‑ No local display. Output status and fault codes are read via upper‑level HMI.

‑ Module hardware failure will cause loss of corresponding binary output channels, protection trip and interlock signals cannot be sent to field equipment, which brings potential safety risks for generator‑transformer set.

Communication Interfaces

‑ Back‑plane connector: Connect to system back‑plane bus for data exchange with CPU and other boards.

‑ Front‑panel field connector: Connect to external relay coils, trip circuits and alarm devices.

Environmental Specifications

‑ Mounting: Plug‑in installation inside REG216 system rack

‑ Operating Temperature: 0 °C ~ +60 °C

‑ Storage Temperature: −40 °C ~ +85 °C

‑ Relative Humidity: 5‑95 %RH, non‑condensing

‑ Protection Class: IP20 (inside cabinet)

System Complementary Components
  1. 216AB61 module (HESG324013R101)
Complementary parts: REG216 system rack back‑plane, CPU processing unit, external relay loads, field shielded cables.
Installation Notes

‑ Power off the whole rack before inserting or removing the module. Use shielded cables for field wiring to reduce electromagnetic interference.

‑ For spare‑part replacement: Verify complete part number HESG324013R101. After replacement, confirm back‑plane bus identification, verify each channel output action and self‑diagnosis fault reporting function.

‑ Module hardware fault will result in loss of binary output, which may affect generator‑transformer protection and interlock logic.

Typical Application Scenarios

Generator and main‑transformer protection cabinets in power plants; ABB REG216 protection system; industrial spare‑part replacement.
