Description
Hardware Basic Specifications
Full part number: 3BDZ00398R1IMG, hardware variant of RLM01 redundancy link unit. Mounting method: standard 35 mm DIN‑rail installation inside control cabinet. Three 9‑pin Sub‑D RS485 interfaces: M (main channel), A and B (redundant bus channels). Communication rate supports 9.6 kbit/s up to 12 Mbit/s, fully compatible with PROFIBUS DP and FMS protocolsABB. Power supply: 24 VDC (+20 ~ +33 V DC), typical power consumption 150 mA, power loss approx 3.6 W, terminal block accepts wire cross‑section 0.14‑1.5 mm². Supports redundant power input for higher reliability. Equipped with multi‑LED status indicators for power, channel activity and error alarm. Potential‑free fault alarm contact, contact rating max 1 A below 60 VDC, contact opens when module detects internal failure or bus faultABB. Operating ambient temperature: 0℃ ~ +50℃; storage temperature‑30℃ ~ +85℃; relative humidity max 75 % non‑condensing. Protection class IP20, only for cabinet‑internal deployment. Each channel can connect up to 31 PROFIBUS DP stations. Signal repeater function regenerates bus signal waveform and amplitude to extend communication distanceABB. Certified by CE, UL/CSA and Germanischer Lloyd marine certification.
Practical Application Scenarios
Mainly deployed in high‑reliability DCS control cabinets for power plants, petrochemical plants, metallurgy and marine automation projects. It solves the problem that field PROFIBUS devices with only one communication port cannot access redundant PROFIBUS networks. When the master control system adopts dual‑redundant PROFIBUS bus architecture, RLM01 acts as intermediate conversion unit. It receives data from single‑port slave devices and forwards to dual A/B redundant bus; or receives data from dual redundant bus and outputs to single‑port field equipment. The module monitors A, B and M bus channels in real‑time. If one redundant bus fails, it automatically switches to the healthy bus without interrupting field device communication. It can be installed behind PROFIBUS master station, in front of whole bus segment or for individual field instrument. Widely used in new‑build high‑availability projects and spare‑part replacement for existing Freelance / 800xA DCS systems.
Installation & Maintenance Notes
Only install inside closed industrial control cabinet, avoid heavy dust, corrosive gas and strong mechanical vibration environment. Keep sufficient ventilation clearance around module, do not cover heat‑dissipation surfaces with cables. Complete all wiring work under power‑off status. Strictly follow PROFIBUS wiring specification, use shielded twisted‑pair cable, terminate bus terminals correctly at both bus ends. Wrong terminal setting will cause unstable communication or communication failure. Check 24 VDC power supply voltage range; redundant power supply configuration is recommended for important working conditions. Wire the fault‑alarm dry contact to system DI channel for remote fault diagnosis. Set PROFIBUS baud rate consistent with whole bus segment. Do not exceed maximum station quantity of each channel. On‑site disassembly of internal circuit board is forbidden. Replace the whole DIN‑rail module when hardware fault occurs. During routine maintenance, check LED indicator status, alarm‑contact signal and bus‑segment event log.
Common Abnormal Phenomena & Troubleshooting
- Power LED off after power‑on: Check 24 VDC power supply, circuit breaker and terminal wiring. Verify whether input voltage stays within 20‑33 VDC range. Re‑tighten power terminal block.
- Intermittent communication drop‑out or frame loss: Check PROFIBUS shield cable laying and grounding. Confirm bus terminal resistors are correctly enabled. Verify baud‑rate consistency across the whole bus. Reduce bus segment length if signal attenuation is obvious.
- Error alarm LED keeps lighting: Read module self‑diagnosis status. Check whether A‑channel or B‑channel bus short‑circuit or open‑circuit occurs. Inspect bus connectors for pin bending or oxidation. Reset module after eliminating external bus fault.
- Fail‑over function abnormal when one bus fails: Confirm both A and B bus segments work normally. Check parameter configuration of redundancy logic. Verify hardware version consistency if multiple RLM01 modules are deployed in one system.
- Remote alarm contact cannot trigger fault signal: Check wiring of potential‑free alarm contact, confirm load voltage and current do not exceed contact rated capacity.
