GE HE693RTU900 Modbus Slave Interface Module

A single‑slot intelligent communication module for GE Series 90‑30 PLC platform, acting as Modbus‑RTU / ASCII slave station. It enables external Modbus master devices to directly access PLC internal memory and I/O data via RS232 or RS485 serial ports, widely used for HMI, SCADA and third‑party instrument interconnection in industrial automation systems.

  • Data capacity: Supports up to 2000 discrete points or 125 analog registers per single Modbus message frameHorner Aut…
  • Status indicators: Front‑panel TXA, RXA, TXB, RXB and DCS LED lamps for port activity and protocol diagnostic statusHorner Aut…
  • Mechanical structure: Single‑slot rack‑mount module; non‑hot‑swappable
  • Operating ambient temperature: 0 ℃ ~ +60 ℃; storage temperature ‑40 ℃ ~ +85 ℃; relative humidity 5‑95 % non‑condensing
  • Compatibility: Requires Series 90‑30 CPU firmware version V5.01 or higher; configured via LogicMaster‑90 software or handheld programmer.

Core Functions & Features

  1. Operates as Modbus slave station, accepts read‑write requests from Modbus master such as HMI, SCADA host and third‑party controllers. Realizes transparent mapping between PLC memory and Modbus register address space.
  2. Supports both Modbus‑RTU high‑efficiency binary mode and Modbus‑ASCII text transmission mode for different field device requirements.
  3. Built‑in complete Modbus exception response mechanism, returning corresponding fault codes for illegal address, illegal function code and access errors to assist remote diagnosis.
  4. Two serial ports can be configured independently; RS‑485 multi‑drop bus supports multi‑master networking with termination resistor fitted on bus terminals.
  5. All communication parameters including station address, baud rate, parity and data mapping range can be set offline and downloaded to module.

On‑site Installation & Commissioning Notes

  1. Cut off full rack power supply before inserting or removing HE693RTU900, since the module is non‑hot‑swappable.
  2. For RS‑485 bus wiring, use shielded twisted‑pair cable. Install matching termination resistor at the two physical ends of communication trunk cable. Separate serial signal cables from high‑voltage power cables to reduce electromagnetic interference.
  3. Complete module configuration: define Modbus station address, baud rate, parity bit, stop bit, protocol mode and PLC memory mapping scope.
  4. Verify that CPU firmware version meets V5.01 or above requirement; old CPU firmware will trigger abnormal communication.
  5. After downloading configuration, check front‑panel LED indicators. TX/RX lights should flicker when data exchange occurs. Perform read‑write test from Modbus master side to confirm data consistency.
  6. Replacement note: Use identical part‑number module; other communication modules cannot serve as direct drop‑in substitutes without re‑configuration.
