Main Functions
- Acts as main‑rack master for Series 90‑70 remote expansion bus, communicates with IC697BEM731 modules located in remote racks, extends PLC I/O points without adding slots in main CPU rack.
- Parallel high‑speed bus ensures fast refresh of digital and analog I/O located in distributed remote racks.
- Comprehensive link diagnostics to detect broken cable, remote rack power‑loss and communication parity errors.
- Front‑panel LED indicators: ‑ Green OK: Module self‑test passed ‑ Red FAULT: Hardware / configuration / remote‑link fault ‑ XMIT: Expansion‑bus transmit activity ‑ RECV: Expansion‑bus receive activity
Installation & Wiring Requirements
- Power‑off entire rack before installation or replacement. Hot‑swap is not allowed. Apply ESD protection during module handling.
- Insert IC697BEM721 into free slot of Series 90‑70 main‑rack backplane and fasten module latch. Connect qualified 50‑pin parallel expansion bus cable between BEM721 and remote‑rack IC697BEM731 modules.
- Cable installation comply with manual GFK‑0366. Separate expansion bus cables from high‑power high‑voltage wiring. Reliable protective‑ground connection is mandatory.
- After replacement: Power‑on rack power, check front‑panel LED indicators. Download hardware configuration, define remote‑rack slot layout. Verify all I/O signals from every remote expansion rack. Simulate cable disconnection to check fault‑reporting behavior.
- Replacement note: Confirm total main‑rack backplane power budget. Check 50‑pin cable integrity and pin definition. Full‑system commissioning test is mandatory before putting into service.
