GE IC697BEM733 Series 90‑70 Genius Remote I/O Scanner Module

IC697BEM733 is Genius remote I/O scanner module for GE Fanuc Series 90‑70 PLC, installed inside Genius remote expansion rack. It connects Series 90‑70 remote rack backplane to Genius field serial bus, allows entire remote rack of Series‑90‑70 I/O modules to operate as one Genius bus slave station.

It communicates over Genius shielded twisted‑pair bus at fixed 153.6 kbaud. Each BEM733 represents one Genius node address on Genius network. Multiple BEM733 remote racks can coexist on same Genius trunk cable. Works with main‑rack Genius master module IC697BEM713. Supports dual‑cable Genius bus redundancy for higher system availability. Reference manual GFK‑0390. Product status: Obsolete, legacy spare‑part supply only; cannot be used on RX3i backplane, hot‑swap not supported.

Main Functions

  1. Makes a complete Series‑90‑70 remote I/O rack become a slave node on Genius field bus. Reads input channels and drives output channels for all modules inside its local remote rack, exchanges data with main‑rack Genius master IC697BEM713 over Genius serial bus.
  2. Supports dual‑cable Genius bus redundancy; automatically switches to secondary cable if primary communication fails.
  3. Front‑panel rotary switches set unique Genius node physical address, no software download required for address setting.
  4. Front‑panel LED indicators:   ‑ Green OK: Module self‑test passed   ‑ Red FAULT: Hardware / bus / configuration fault   ‑ BUS A: Primary cable communication activity   ‑ BUS B: Redundant secondary cable communication activity

Installation & Wiring Requirements

  1. Power‑off remote rack and main rack power before installation or replacement. Hot‑swap is not permitted. Apply ESD protection during module handling.
  2. Insert IC697BEM733 into free slot of Series 90‑70 remote‑rack backplane and lock latch. Set Genius node address via front‑panel rotary DIP switches, ensure no duplicate address on Genius network.
  3. Genius bus wiring comply with manual GFK‑0390. Use official Genius shielded twisted‑pair cable, install 120 Ω termination resistors at trunk two ends. Keep bus wiring separate from high‑voltage power cables. Reliable protective‑ground connection is mandatory.
  4. After replacement: Power‑on racks, check front‑panel LED status. Download hardware configuration in Logicmaster / Proficy Machine Edition. Verify all I/O signals within this remote rack. Test dual‑cable fail‑over function if redundant bus is deployed.
  5. Replacement note: Confirm node address is unique. Check bus termination and A/B polarity. Full‑system commissioning test is mandatory before putting into service.
