GE IC697CMM742 Series 90‑70 Type‑2 TCP/IP Ethernet Communication Module

IC697CMM742 (Type‑2) is a single‑slot Ethernet communication module for GE Fanuc Series 90‑70 PLC platform. It delivers TCP/IP network capability for Series 90‑70 CPUs without native Ethernet port, offering improved performance compared to legacy IC697CMM741.

The module provides three physical Ethernet media interfaces, while only one interface can be activated at a time. It is equipped with a local Station‑Manager debug serial port and a firmware download serial port. Supported functions include SRTP program upload/download, EGD peer‑to‑peer data exchange, Modbus‑TCP client / server, and BOOTP dynamic IP assignment. Maximum 32 concurrent TCP connections are supported. Up to four CMM742 modules can be installed within one main rack.

Firmware can be upgraded online via RS‑485 serial port. Configuration parameters are stored in non‑volatile memory on module. Configuration software: Proficy Machine Edition / IC641. Reference manual GFK‑1314H. Product status: Obsolete, spare‑part supply only. Not compatible with RX3i backplane; hot‑swap is not supported.

Main Functions

  1. Provides industrial Ethernet interface for Series 90‑70 PLC, supporting PLC program upload/download, SCADA host communication, high‑speed peer‑to‑peer EGD data exchange among multiple controllers, and connection to third‑party Modbus‑TCP instruments and devices.
  2. Multi‑media physical interfaces support twisted‑pair, thin‑coaxial, and fiber via external AUI transceiver for flexible field wiring solutions.
  3. Local Station‑Manager serial port allows on‑site IP setting and fault troubleshooting without plant network access.
  4. Front‑panel LED indicators:   ‑ Green MOD OK: Module self‑test passed   ‑ Green LAN ONLINE: Ethernet link established   ‑ SERIAL ACTIVE: Serial port communication activity   ‑ STATUS: Module operational status

Installation & Wiring Requirements

  1. Cut off full rack power supply before installation or replacement. Hot‑swap is not permitted. Apply ESD protection during module handling.
  2. Insert IC697CMM742 into free slot of Series 90‑70 main‑rack backplane and fasten module latch. Select one valid Ethernet media for connection, leave other interfaces unused.
  3. Network wiring shall comply with reference manual GFK‑1314H. Use shielded twisted‑pair cables for copper connection; install proper terminators for coaxial network. Reliable protective‑ground connection is mandatory.
  4. After replacement: Power‑on rack power and check front‑panel LED status. Download hardware configuration project, configure IP address, subnet mask, gateway and EGD exchange tables. Verify programming download, EGD data exchange and Modbus‑TCP read‑write function.
  5. Replacement note: Confirm host CPU firmware meets minimum revision requirement; avoid IP address conflict within plant network. Full‑system commissioning test is mandatory before putting into service.
