GE IC698PSA100 PACSystems RX7i 100‑Watt Rack Power Supply Module

IC698PSA100 is a rack‑mount power supply for PACSystems RX7i VME‑based PAC platform. It must be installed in Slot 0 (far‑left slot) of RX7i main chassis, converting wide‑range AC or DC input into regulated +5 VDC, +12 VDC, −12 VDC backplane power for CPU, communication and I/O modules.

Universal auto‑ranging input supports 85‑264 VAC or 100‑150 VDC field supply. Total maximum output power is 100 Watts. Equipped with active power‑factor correction (PFC, PF≥0.99). Provides minimum 15 ms power‑ride‑through for short‑term input dropout, and generates power‑fail signal to VME backplane for orderly CPU shutdown processing. Supports parallel redundant power‑supply configuration for high‑availability system. Front‑panel logic on/off switch controls DC output without disconnecting mains input. Reference manual GFK‑2223. Product status: Obsolete, spare‑part supply only. RX7i VME backplane; hot‑swap is not supported.

Main Functions

  1. Converts universal AC/DC field input into multi‑rail regulated backplane power for all RX7i modules within chassis. Provides power‑fail sequencing signal to CPU for safe data saving before power collapse.
  2. Supports parallel redundant power‑supply architecture to improve system availability for critical control applications. Active PFC reduces mains harmonic distortion.
  3. Front‑panel LED indicators:   ‑ PWR OK: DC output rails within normal operating range   ‑ FAULT: Over‑voltage, over‑current, over‑temperature, short‑circuit or input power failure

Installation & Wiring Requirements

  1. Cut off AC/DC field input power before installation or replacement. Hot‑swap is not permitted. Apply ESD protection during module handling.
  2. Insert IC698PSA100 into slot 0 (far‑left dedicated power‑supply slot) of RX7i chassis and fasten module latch. For redundant configuration, install second PSA100 into slot 0 of second rack with proper load sharing setup.
  3. Field input wiring comply with manual GFK‑2223. Use appropriate wire gauge; install external upstream over‑current protection. Reliable protective‑ground connection for rack chassis is mandatory.
  4. After replacement: Restore field input power, observe front‑panel LED status. Measure +5 V, ±12 V backplane voltages. Verify CPU, communication and I/O modules boot and run stable. For redundant power setup, test fault simulation of one power‑supply unit.
  5. Replacement note: Always calculate total rack power consumption before adding new modules to avoid overloading power‑supply unit. Full‑system commissioning test is mandatory before putting into service.
